Serious Choices (11/11/2023)

Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13-14).

Reasons for developing a wholesome relationship with God are many, according to the scriptures; but I know of no better reason than this one Jesus puts forth in the book of Matthew.

The results of the choice given all mankind in this scripture are clear and specific: either we choose the broad gate and broad way, resulting in our spiritual destruction; or we choose the narrow gate and difficult way, resulting in our receiving eternal life in heaven.

Few religious people would fail to verbalize: “Oh, I choose the narrow road to heaven, beyond doubt.” The proof of such a declaration, however, is in how one follows through with this statement. Words are easy to say but sometimes difficult to stay with.

God wants all of us; but to get to Him, we must be willing to submit to His teaching, dedicate ourselves to His Cause, and “crucify” fleshly desires. That is the narrow way, according to the scriptures.
