Gladly Serve the Lord (3/9/2025)

Joe Norton

“Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture” (Psalm 100:01-03).

Considered a classic among the psalms, Psalm 100, a psalm of praise and thanksgiving, celebrates the coming of the Lord to reign over the entire world and to serve as a Judge for all.

These first three verses show that the Lord’s intent is to broaden His governance from being just for the Jews to all peoples over the world. And all are invited to come to Him.

Joyful noise” and “come before the Lord with singing” show that the worship of God is the intended activity here. Our attitude during worship is not to be sad—rather, it is to be one of joy.

The message is for us to respect the Lord for His power—He is God, and He created us. We belong to Him; so, we should show our recognition of this fact by submitting to His way, His power, and His majesty.
